Safe Art-Related Websites For Kids
https://crayola.com/athome This website by Crayola offers a lot to do for both kids and adults! From printables such as coloring sheets and cut-and-glue pages to craft projects and how-to videos, Crayola can keep everyone in the family busy. There's also a free app to download where kids can have fun interacting with cute pets! One of my favorites is the Kindness Rock Painting found in the crafts section. Both kids and adults can benefit from thinking up their own inspirational messages to add to colorful rocks, or even just write them on colorful pieces of paper.
https://hellokids.com Here kids can find both printable and online coloring pages, craft activities, how-to-draw videos or step-by-step drawing tutorials, and even online games! When I clicked on the online games tab, I found a Coloring Frog online coloring game. The game has different coloring tools to choose from such as crayons and markers. And, you can choose whatever colors you want for things, So, I colored the frog blue with red legs and yellow arms!
https://bomomo.com This site is really fun! It's an interactive website where you can create abstract art by clicking buttons and moving your mouse around. Some of you might remember what abstract means. That's art that doesn't look like anything in real life. For example, an abstract drawing could show just lines, shapes, and colors. Like this website! Here's how to use it: you will see a white screen with 2 rows of gray buttons under it.
1. Click one of the buttons.
2. Slide your mouse arrow onto the white screen.
3. Press and hold your left mouse button.
4. Move your mouse around to see the design appear.
5. Release the button.
Repeat clicking buttons and moving your mouse to make colorful crazy designs! There is no regular eraser button, but look on the bottom right side under the screen. You will see a row of 3 small gray buttons. The one in the middle shows a piece of paper. Click it to start over. My favorite button is the first one on the left in the bottom row. I think it's cool how it loops around, first in one direction then in another direction. Try it!
https://artsology.com/color-cube-art-game.php Do you like pixel art? That's where everything is colored in using little square boxes. Pixel art is popular in some video games today, like Minecraft. I found this game online and it reminded me of pixel art. There's a large rectangle filled with boxes. Under the rectangle is a set of 10 colors. Click (or touch if you're on a phone) a color then touch a box. It will change from gray to that color. If you touch the same box again, it will turn back to gray. If you click on the sentence below the colors, you can start over again. This game kept me busy for awhile. First, I made a green tree then a purple heart with orange and white stripes. After that I made a blue arrow and a little red car with black tires sitting on some green grass. The little car was my favorite. You can't print your picture from the website, but you could take a screenshot of it, (right click your picture) save it to your computer, and then print it out.
https://toytheater.com/category There is a lot to do on at this site! Art stuff and other things, too. Let's talk about the art part. First, click on the green ART button at the top of the page. This will bring up different interactive activities. Try my favorite! Look for the one called Spiral. It's in the top row, all of the way to the right. Click it. The action happens right in the center. You'll see a set of 3 circles with one inside the others. This set will be spinning around. Look to the right and you'll see 3 more circles. This time, each circle is placed on top of a thick vertical line. These are levers. Click and hold on one of these circles and slide it up and down to see what happens in the big set. Look above the levers to see 3 buttons. One is an arrow, one is a dot, and one is a trash can. Click on the dot. This will bring up a choice of line sizes. Choose one. Almost ready! Pick a color from the choices under the big set of circles. This will bring up different colors in that color family. Pick one. Now, click on that arrow button. Click again to make the movement stop. Move the levers and choose another color, or change the line size. If you don't like what you made, click the trash can to start over. It's really fun! I remember something like this when I was growing up. It was called Spirograph. Hey, I just looked it up on the internet and they still sell it! Maybe, I need to buy one...
www.scrapcoloring.com This is an online coloring site that's different from most coloring sites. On this one, you get to add patterns to the pictures along with lots of colors to choose from. When you get to the home page, be sure to read the directions on how to do the coloring. Then, click on the blue words that say "all the coloring pages". Choose one and click on it. Some are simple drawings and some have more details. I scrolled all the way to the bottom and chose Bubble Tree. This one reminded me of a Dr. Seuss kind of tree. I decided to start coloring with the tree trunk. I saw the brown color but wanted something a little unusual. So, I clicked on purple for the foreground and blue for the background. Next, a pattern. I picked horizontal wavy lines. Do you remember which way horizontal lines go? (hint: side to side) Then I clicked on the trunk and it changed to wavy purple and blue lines. After that, I fill ed in all of the bubbles, each one using different colors and patterns. When you finish yours, look under your picture for some icons. You'll be able to print or save your picture. You can even order a t-shirt with your picture on it! Better ask your parents before you do any ordering.
www.krokotak.com I discovered this website while looking for a kid's drawing activity. I'm definitely glad I did! I spent at least an hour just looking around at all of the different things they have. There are several tabs at the top of the page that will bring up a variety of stuff to do. Like, on the printables tab, I saw an interesting turtle printout. The turtle's shell is made out of strips of paper that are glued in an arch shape. I think I would draw a design on the strips before coloring and cutting them out. Then there's a tab called recipes. I clicked on the word salty. I scrolled down and saw an octopus! It was made out of a hot dog that was cut a certain way then boiled in water to cook it. Those legs curl around just like a real octopus! It's hilarious! (that means very funny!) You gotta go see it! There's another tab called educational activities. I clicked on it then on fine motor skills (that means doing things with your hands like drawing and cutting). I scrolled down and found a really cool lion! In fact, I liked it so much I decided to show you how to create it. So, go over to my drawing page and find out how!
quickdraw.withgoogle.com This drawing game is fun, but challenging! It was created by the team at Google. You get 20 seconds to draw a picture of the word given to you such as pineapple. While you're drawing, the computer tries to guess what it is. You get 6 different words to draw, some are easy to draw while some are harder such as camouflage. When you're finished with the first set of 6 words, you can start over again. The idea is to draw the objects accurately enough so the computer can recognize what it is. And, the computer is really good at figuring out what you're drawing! Try it yourself! Go to the website and just click on the orange "Let's Draw" box. If you want to more about how they made this game, click on the pink question mark box in the top left corner.
www.autodraw.com I found this website just looking around for something interesting to do with drawing. The autodraw feature on this website is amazing! If you're not too steady when drawing with a computer mouse, you can click on the pencil button (the one at the top left that has stars around it). Then scroll down to the colored circle and click on it to choose a color to draw in. Next, click and hold your left mouse button and scribble something on the white drawing area. Look at the top of the page and you'll see tiny pictures of things your scribble brought up. If you click on a picture, it will appear on your drawing area! I scribbled a spiral line and it brought up a snail, a tire, a lollipop, a galaxy, and lots more! Click on the pencil without stars and you can draw on your own. Also, you can add words or shapes or even zoom in to see something up close. There's a fill button you can click to color in your drawings. If you draw something you don't like, first make sure you're using the free draw button, then you can click on things and click the delete button. Plus, there's an undo button if you change your mind about deleting something. Go try it!
